General
Questions
AIR QUALITY
Q: I'm concerned about the potential impact on air quality. Where
can I find additional information?
A: EPA has initiated an air monitoring effort to ensure the safety
of local residents and track any developing air quality changes.
Please visit http://airnow.gov/ or http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/qanda.html#aq
for more information.
FISHERIES IMPACT
Q: Where can I find more information about the impact on fishing?
A: NOAA Fisheries Service continually updates its commercial and
recreational fishing closure notices. Please visit : http:/sero.nmfs.noaa.govdeepwater_horizon_oil_spill.htm
BEACH
Q: Where can I check on the status of a beach?
A: For more information on the condition or status of a beach, please
visit: http://www.adph.org
DRINKING WATER
Q: Is my drinking water safe?
A: The oil spill is not currently expected to affect drinking water. The closest
drinking water intake in use in Southeastern Louisiana on the Mississippi River
is 49 miles upstream from the mouth of the river. If you have any concerns
about your water, contact your water utility.
Will my private well be impacted by the oil spill?
No. The oil sheen is not expected to impact domestic wells.
HURRICANES AND THE OIL SPILL
Q: What will the hurricane do to the oil slick in the Gulf?
A:The high winds and seas will mix and “weather” the oil which
can help accelerate the biodegradation process. Movement of oil would depend
greatly on the track of the hurricane.
Debris resulting from the hurricane may be contaminated by oil from the Deepwater
Horizon incident, but also from other oil releases that
may occur during the storm.
